We are excited to announce that this year’s CBEN & MVE joint meeting<\/strong> will take place October 24 & 25 in Maastricht, Netherlands<\/strong>, with a pre-conference on October 23, 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This meeting aims to bring together scholars from a wide range of disciplines to share their work at the interface of cognition, decision-making, behavior, and evolution. The 2024 meeting will be a joint meeting of CBEN with its German sister network\u00a0MVE<\/a>.\u00a0Additionally,\u00a02024 marks CBEN\u2019s 10th and MVE\u2019s 25th anniversary, making this a \u2018doubly special\u2019 occasion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme for 2024 will explore economic, psychological, and biological perspectives on the \u2018dark\u2019 sides of behavior<\/strong>, such as discrimination, exploitation, antisocial and criminal behavior, conflict, and war. How come that we as humans are those social animals that became uniquely cooperative, cultural, and civilized? How come that, at the exact same time, we are our own worst enemy, dehumanizing, subjugating, exploiting, and aggressing each other? And, most importantly: How can we prevent the conflicting interests permeating all human societies from escalating into segregation, suppression, violence, and war? These and related questions shape the program and will be addressed by the plenary speakers: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this year\u2019s meeting, we particularly welcome submissions for presentations related to the meeting\u2019s theme; nonetheless, presentations on all other topics that fall into CBEN\u2019s and MVE\u2019s broader scope are very welcome, too. The meeting will offer an excellent opportunity for researchers (including PhD candidates and postdocs) to present their work and network with one another in a stimulating and relaxed atmosphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
